Welcome to the Floriston Property Owners Association Website <\/h5>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of this site is for the members of the Property Owners Association of Floriston, California is to be able to access the public records and documents concerning the Association and be a source for additional important information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • The Floriston Property Owners Association<\/strong> provides water, sewer, and road services to 43 parcels in Floriston, California.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The Association <\/strong>is managed by its Board of Directors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Board meetings<\/strong> are held every second Tuesday of the month at 6pm, at the school house.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Agendas<\/strong> are posted on this website at least 4 days prior to the meeting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Road, Water & Sewer<\/strong> reports are by year and month.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Interim financial statements<\/strong> are available in the “Treasurer Report” by year and month. We endeavor to post the summary profit and loss statements for the end of the last fiscal year and for each month of the current fiscal year on this site. We also endeavor to post the balance sheets for the same periods here. Financials for periods prior to that are available by requesting them from the Board. Minutes are posted within 30 days after the meeting was held.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    A Little Town With a Big History<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Known as the \u201cTown of Flowers,\u201d Floriston sits along the Truckee River, about 10 miles east-northeast of Truckee in Nevada County, California. As of July 1, 2015, its population was just 71. Floriston was established in 1899 by the Floriston Pulp and Paper Company to house employees of its paper mill, once said to be the second-largest paper mill in the world, employing approximately 500 people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Before that, Floriston was an important stop along the railroad. Its location near the Boca Ice Company\u2014known as \u201cIceland\u201d\u2014made it a key place for trains to replenish their ice supplies. The town also boasted a 52-room hotel complete with a spring-loaded dance floor. An old postcard even captures the cable bridge that once carried travelers across the Truckee River into town. When the paper mill closed, Floriston fell quiet and eventually became a ghost town. That changed when San Francisco attorney Preston Wright purchased the town. In 1947, he established the Floriston Property Owners Association, Inc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Over the decades, families returned and Floriston grew into the unique community it is today: eclectic, independent, proud, and deeply connected to rural living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Floriston residents are responsible for maintaining many of the services that keep the community running, including water, roads, and sewer systems. In 1995, Floriston became a Mutual Benefit Corporation. The old schoolhouse continues to be a place of town meetings and community events such as weddings, funerals, and general gatherings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
